olivershmoliver: Got a Valentine’s card from my wife this morning. On the sidewalk. Yeah. We’re that couple. Yup. I’m romantic, guys. I did this a little before 1:00 a.m. We left the house at 9:30. Someone had clearly tried to mess it up in the meantime. Maybe that person didn’t care for my Grinch-inspired “drawing.” Maybe he or she just hates Valentine’s Day....

It's Charles Dickens' 200th Birthday! →
olivershmoliver: Hey, guys! Charles Dickens was born 200 years ago today. What better time to put on your smoking jacket, pour a glass of scotch and tuck into one of this master’s tomes? Here’s a list of some of Dickens’ best to help you get started. A Christmas Carol — Who can forget ol’ Scrooge, little Tiny…

New York AIDS Memorial →
I never met my father-in-law. I look forward to writing his name on this gorgeous memorial. olivershmoliver: My dad was diagnosed HIV positive in 1986. He died of AIDS in 1996. I doubt there will ever be a national AIDS memorial, so it’s nice that New York is acknowledging the impact this disease has had.

Crazy in Love →
Good news. I saw Antony last night, and he’s still doing his cover of “Crazy in Love.” He’s still wringing every drop out of the bittersweet lyrics, and it’s still amazing.

mattlittle: jonbershad: To continue the theme today (and make Sal’s prophecy come true), here is the hype video for #klepper’s return to Indie Cage Match this Sunday. It’s a little more jumbled than our last one as we couldn’t get everyone there and we got kind of interrupted while filming. This is really just raw footage without any editing or anything, but I think it still works. (special...

indiecagematch: This Sunday, folks, it’s time for Indie Cage Match UCB East to destroy your brains with comedy. Lots of comedy. In UCB East Indie Cage Match’s exhilarating seventh show, North Coast is back for their third round against two big, funny teams. This is our last show of 2011, and let me tell… What an embarrassment of holiday riches! #klepper gets to perform together AND...

Casting call, children's edition
olivershmoliver: Do you own or know a child? Would he or she like to be in a short web video pertaining to the holidays? Sarah and I are making a short and need a child, preferably one who is 5-10 years old. This would require about 15-30 minutes of their time this Saturday or Sunday, and we could come to them to film. And now I’ll end this in an awkward question so that you can respond? My...

Where is this, exactly?
I’m reading about catcalls at runners. In 2009, someone posted a poll on this topic on a Runner’s World message board. One response from a woman began: Luckily for me I live in a college town where everyone respects women. So new poll: Magical land or Magical thinking?

The Once and Future Way to Run →
Christopher McDougall has a piece and video in NYT this morning. I’m still learning to run, so maybe I can make the one injury I’ve had already my last. Also, read his book Born to Run—even if you don’t run. It’s that good.

This week I will have lived in NYC for 10 years. Last night I experienced a first for my time in the city. I got on an R at 42nd. We were told that the train was making F stops from 57th in Manhattan to 36th in Queens. This has been common on weekends lately, and it didn’t effect my getting home. The announcement of the change was made two more times during the trip. And yet…the...

Improv PSA: Under St. Marks
This is just something I thought I’d mention as we head to another weekend of shows at Under St. Marks. When Movie Night was warming up on Saturday, someone in an apartment that overlooks USM’s back patio threw a bucket of water on us. I really wanted it to be a spilled beverage from a rooftop party, but there was no container on the ground. Perhaps it was a fluke of some kind....
